Campaign Highlights Take a look at the highlights from Sierra Club Connecticut’s current campaigns and what we’ve been working on. Cleaning up Connecticut’s Waste Would you like to see cleaner waterways, better recycling, and more green jobs? There are three important bills working through the Connecticut General Assembly that provide solutions for reducing waste and improving recycling. Learn more about these bills and help us push to clean up our state.
Zoned Out Thoughts - Intro to Systems Change and Visualization Zoning regulates land use, and zoning laws can be used to protect the environment, prevent pollution, and improve our quality of life with parks and green spaces. However, historically, zoning is steeped in racism and contributes to environmental injustice issues. Hear from our Community Outreach Coordinator and her reflections on zoning.	Climate Ride for Sierra Club CT Since its founding in 2008, thousands of bicycle riders have powered the Climate Ride on their quest to protect our planet. And since 2017 Sierra Club Connecticut has been officially designated as a Climate Ride beneficiary. Find out how you can be part of the Climate Ride and support our chapter’s work!	When Local Control is Needed When can towns make their own laws? This point is discussed with the current example of the sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits in municipalities in Connecticut. As animal and nature lovers, pet shops bring up concerns of humane treatment, as well as overpopulation issues.
Nuclear Weapons and the Biden Administration Let President Biden know that we must move "Back from the Brink" of nuclear war and nuclear catastrophe. We cannot endure another nuclear arms race. Join us in signing on this letter to President Biden from Sierra Club Nuclear Weapons Grassroots Team.	Invasives: Ousting Prolific Plant Tresspassers It’s time for a little spring cleaning! Our favorite master gardener gives us some tips and resources on invasives to be on the lookout for and how to remove and control them. By removing invasives, you will have more room to establish native plants to support your local ecosystem.	Fighting for Clean Energy: NAMRA At first glance, hydropower may seem like a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels. However, taking a closer look, we see the greenwashing taking place. Learn more about the environmental racism, greenhouse gases, and environmental impact resulting from megadams. Take a stand against importing this dirty hydropower to our states in the Northeast.
Contradictions Abound in CT's Energy Policy Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) continues to hand out permits for climate destroying fossil fuel power plants with no end in sight. Even DEEP’s plans for 100% zero carbon electricity will allow the 54 fossil fuel power plants in our state to continue and more to be added. Something must be done.
