WAYS TO GIVE TO OUR CHAPTER
We can’t do this work without the help of our volunteers—and through the support of members like you. Conservation efforts depend on your support. 100% of your donation stays here in Connecticut so we can continue to fight for cleaner air, cleaner energy, and more wild places. Below are all the ways you can support Sierra Club Connecticut.
Donate Online
We are working tirelessly to protect wildlife and wild places, ensure clean air and water for all, and fight for environmental justice here in Connecticut. 100% of your gift stays local and will be applied where it is most urgently needed. Donate online here.

Make a tax-deductible gift through the Sierra Club Foundation
There are many ways to make a tax deductible gift:
-
Give from your IRA: If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free charitable distribution directly from your IRA to support the Connecticut Chapter. IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions, also referred to as Charitable IRA Rollovers or IRA QCDs, are a way to support the Sierra Club Foundation as a qualifying charity without incurring federal income tax liability. If you are 72 or older, this can also help you to meet your required minimum distribution. These gifts must be made directly to Sierra Club Foundation for the benefit of the Connecticut Chapter.
-
Give from your Donor Advised Fund: Your gift from your Donor Advised Fund will immediately be put to work protecting Connecticut's environment. You can recommend a grant to Sierra Club Foundation to support the Connecticut Chapter and have a positive impact on your local community and wild places. Please note that gifts from Donor Advised Funds aren’t automatically applied to the Chapter–you have to reach out to Sierra Club Foundation to share your designation to the Chapter.
Gifts of Stock or Property
Sierra Club makes it easy to make a non-deductible stock gift to the Sierra Club Connecticut Chapter. See instructions here and name the Connecticut Chapter in the "Purpose of the gift" box.
Gift Planning
Planning an estate gift to the Sierra Club or the Sierra Club Foundation to benefit the Sierra Club Connecticut Chapter enables you to forge your legacy and ensure support for generations to come. Depending on the type of gift you choose — whether it’s a gift in your will, a gift of retirement assets, or a gift that provides you with income — a legacy gift can help you to:
-
Feel secure about making a future impact on the health of your state
-
Maintain control of your assets for life
-
Receive tax benefits
-
Give more than you ever thought possible
-
And join an extraordinary group of visionary partners who share your passion for a healthy planet.
All planned giving donors are recognized as members of the Rachel Carson Society. If you have already made a planned gift or would like further information, please contact our Gift Planning office at (800) 932-4270 or giftplanning@sierraclub.org.
Donate A Vehicle
Did you know you can donate your vehicle and support the charitable programs of Sierra Club Connecticut? We make it easy for you to donate your vehicle. Whether it's running or not, your car, truck, boat, RV, or motorcycle will support Sierra Club Connecticut, sponsored by the Sierra Club Foundation.
Climate Ride
Since its founding in 2008, thousands of bicycle riders have powered the Climate Ride on their quest to protect our planet and improve lives through sustainability and active transportation. During this decade, participants have raised millions of dollars to donate to environmentally oriented organizations. And since 2017 Connecticut Chapter Sierra Club has been officially designated as a Climate Ride beneficiary.
Pedaling for Connecticut: Support us by joining a Climate Ride, Hike, or Run! We are a Climate Ride Beneficiary which means you can have the trip of a lifetime while doing good for our planet and supporting our work! Climate Ride will help you FUNdraise and reach out to your friends and family about important issues. Your support in this time of crisis will keep our important mission going. Help our chapter by fundraising, by spreading the word about our important work, or both!
HOW: Go to www.climateride.org and register for your event! Once you register, you'll get a fundraising page and an email from a real person who will help you with anything you need!
Couch Support: If spending a couple of days on a bike or out in the woods isn't your thing, you still have another option to support our Chapter through the Climate Ride. Dennis Desmarais, Chapter volunteer, has participated in numerous Climate Ride, most of then as an Independent Challenge (rather than one of the organized events). Please pedal with him in tandem or in spirit and support his ride as he fiercely works to help support our chapter. Please consider making a tax deductible donation here.
Workplace Giving
Workplace giving programs allow employees to give to charity through payroll deductions (typically every pay period) and one-time cash, check, or credit card donations, and some employers match the giving. Ask about donating to Earthshare at your workplace giving program.
If you have questions about giving, please contact Samantha Dynowski, Chapter Director at samantha.dynowski@sierraclub.org. If you'd like to cancel your monthly donations or have any other membership questions, contact Sierra Club Member Care at 415-977-5653 (available Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM PDT).
