Greetings!  I hope your summer is going well and filled with outdoor adventures. We here at Sierra Club Connecticut are thrilled to be able to continue to work towards offering a variety of outings that are both inclusive and equitable. The Chapter Outings Program has had two amazing outings so far this summer, exploring the Gungywamp archeological site in Groton and the beautiful Haystack Mountain State Park in Norfolk. Our national Inspiring Connections Outdoors program has partnered with Hartford-based Nonprofit Accountability Group to offer outings to their youth camp program. We have laid a strong foundation for our chapter’s Military Outdoors Program by making connections with Veterans Rally Point in Norwich, the Commision of Veterans Affairs office, and passionate, individual veteran volunteers. We have held our first Sierra Club Connecticut Military Outdoors leader training. Exciting things are happening here in Connecticut.

All of our outings are guided by Sierra Club’s Outdoors for All theory of change vision: Sierra Club envisions a just, equitable, and sustainable future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. In the spirit of this, we strive to show the beauty of our state to our members and supporters, inspiring folks to connect with the healing power of nature. We also strive to empower folks to protect our natural spaces and help us work towards equitable access for everyone. But we cannot do it alone.

If you are interested in leading outings through our chapter’s program, or if you are a veteran, military personnel, or part of a military family and would like to be involved with our MIlitary Outdoors program, please contact me at ann.gadwah@sierraclub.org. And please keep an eye on our Events and Outings Page for upcoming outings. As always, we appreciate your support and hope you will continue to join us on our mission. ‘Til next month.
