Greetings! April was a great month for Chapter Outings / Military Outdoors here at Sierra Club Connecticut. We held an outings training with two amazing potential volunteers, held our first two outings of the year at Day Pond State Park and at the North Branch of the Park River, and also voted in our new Outings Chair.

On April 4, we held an online Outings training session with two volunteers that have been actively involved with the Save Remington Woods campaign. They were engaged and enthusiastic about the outdoors and the environment and I cannot wait to see what kind of adventures they have in store for you this summer. If interested in becoming an Outings leader, we have an online training scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 6:30-9:00 PM. See you there!

We hit the trail on April 14 at Day Pond State Park with seven adventurers for a 3.5 mile hike on the Salmon River Trail. The hike was a perfect walk through the quintessential Connecticut woods. We saw ruins of an old mill along the river, and the stone foundations of old buildings. We looped to a beautiful, flowing waterfall that took our collective breath away. The hike was attended by old friends and new friends. It was a perfect start to the season.

And finally, our Executive Committee elected our new Outings Chair, Michelle Lefebvre. Michelle is a retired Air Force veteran who loves hiking and exploring our amazing state. She will lead hikes this summer and help facilitate the program moving forward. We are thrilled she decided to join us at the Chapter and know you will love her too!

Please check out our Events and Outings page for hikes, kayaks, city walks, and all our other exciting outdoor adventures. Have an amazing summer and I’ll see you on the trail.
