 Rise Up 2018 a SuccessOn Sunday, September 9, CT Chapter Sierra Club, along with numerous other environmental and justice organizations in Connecticut, held a rally and march at the New Haven Green to Rise Up for Climate, Jobs and Justice. This action was part of a world-wide movement of over 900 events in 97 countries and on all seven continents. |  Chapter Chair UpdateCheck in with Martha Klein, the CT Chapter Chair. This month she focuses on fracked gas explosions and what it means for all of us. |  Calling All CT VotersIn November, all Connecticut ballots will include a State referendum to help protect public lands and State Parks. CT Chapter Sierra Club strongly encourages you to vote "Yes" on "Question #2,” to change our Constitution. The Public Lands Referendum will provide a much needed check and balance to prevent our public lands from being sold or given away. |

 Plastic Bags Must GoIn 1977, the first plastic grocery bags started to make an appearance in stores. Today, what was once a novelty is such an integral part of our lives that we barely notice them. That seemingly insignificant piece of plastic that we may not give much thought to, is, however, causing immense damage to our planet. |  Political Committee UpdateGet the latest update from our Political Committee as the election season heats up. CT Chapter Sierra Club continues its work endorsing strong local environmental champions. Our endorsement search for strong statewide candidates includes Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, Attorney General and Secretary of State has begun as well.  Spilling the BeansIn previous editions of the Quinnehtukqut, we introduced readers to hazardous liquid incidents in the U.S. in recent years. We concluded the pipeline system is inconspicuously incident-prone and highlighted the primary pipeline operators and failure causes. In this third and final installment, we uncover drivers of the likelihood of an incident having an environmental cost and drivers of the severity of that environmental cost. |  Real Time RenewableThe goal of 100% clean and renewable energy is becoming more of a reality each day. Once a radical idea, 100% clean and renewable energy is now routinely featured in the news as cities and communities around the country commit to reaching this goal. Moving away from dirty fossil fuels and making an equitable and just transition to clean and renewable energy on a community-wide and statewide level is both possible and necessary in the near future. |  Family Sierra Club ExcursionLearn about the inspiring trip made by a local CT Chapter Sierra Club member, as she traveled to California with her granddaughter. All Connecticut Sierra Club members are invited to contribute to our online newsletter, the Quinnehtukqut, which posts ten times per year: monthly, with one summer issue for July and August, and one holiday/winter issue for December and January. We accept articles, book reviews, puzzles, events, photos, poems, etc. Articles, limited to 500 words, should be on a subject of local or national interest to the Connecticut Chapter membership. The goal of the newsletter is to inform, educate, motivate and involve our members.
