Greetings! I hope everyone is doing okay and staying safe. I am continually impressed and humbled by how kind and helpful Connecticut’s citizens truly are. In these uncertain times, it’s wonderful to see how people come together and take care of each other, even though it is at a physical distance. From grocery store employees, to our doctors and nurses, to those neighbors who support each other, I applaud everyone for your dedication to your fellow human beings. It is inspiring how we can all come together for the greater good, to protect our most vulnerable, and to help solve a problem on a global scale.

 

The work to protect our environment and the people of Connecticut continues. After all the in-person Earth Day events were converted to online, we were able to participate in a 3-day virtual event. This event included the Youth Climate Strike, the Insure our Future Webinar, and virtual EV week. Sierra Club Connecticut is also working with the national organization on a People’s Bailout. We believe that any help at both the federal level and the state level should put people and workers on the frontline of the crisis first, not corporate profits and billionaires. We want an inclusive bailout, for and by the people. Find out more information on the People's Bailout. 

 

Finally, Sierra Club Connecticut stands in solidarity with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. In March, the Department of the Interior notified the tribe that their reservation will be “disestablished” and taken out of trust. This decision is a blow to Tribal sovereignty and undermines the future and sustainability of the tribal nation. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is asking Congress to protect its reservation lands and has put forth the "Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act (HR.312)." To support this legislation and the tribe, sign the petition - Land is Sacred: Stand With the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
