Greetings! As we wrap up 2022, we here at Sierra Club Connecticut are beginning to think about the 2023 legislative session and how Connecticut can create meaningful legislation to equitably protect our climate, ecosystems, public health, and environment. 

 

The Connecticut Legislature is scheduled to convene on January 4, 2023 and adjourn on June 7, 2023. This longer session gives us the opportunity to address many of our most pressing priorities. For helpful information, you can visit the FAQ section of the Connecticut General Assembly Website.

 

Sierra Club Connecticut’s Priorities for the 2023 Session: 

 

Climate, Health, and Equity

• More efficient and healthier buildings

• 100% zero carbon electricity generation

• Require state agencies to comply with climate law

• Housing tenants rights 

 

Waste Reduction and End Incineration

• Pass strong EPR laws 

• Reduce single use plastic waste

• Reject advanced recycling and no new incineration facilities 

 

Protection from Dangerous Toxic Chemicals

• Further reduce PFAS exposure

• Reduce use of toxic chemicals

 

Wildlife Protection

• Promote bear education and intentional feeding ban

• Ban steel leg traps

• Ban wild and exotic animals from traveling circuses

 

This list will grow and evolve as we move into the Legislative Session. We anticipate advocating for a variety of issues that will create a more just, safe, and equitable Connecticut.
