In October, the Sierra Club Connecticut Chapter welcomed a new member to our team! Julianna Larue joined the staff team as an Organizer. Her focus will be on our state legislative efforts. Julianna comes to us with previous experience having worked at CTLCV where she worked on policy issues and helped to host the annual Environmental Summit. Read more from her bio:
Julianna has always had a passion for the environment, beginning her journey by organizing beach clean-ups as a child and writing personal notes to her neighbors to stop littering. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a Concentration in Compliance and Sustainability from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), complemented by minors in Political Science and Biology and Culture. During her time at SNHU, she was President of the Environmental Club, interned for the 2020 Bernie Sanders Campaign, served as a Sustainability Representative, and advocated for gender and racial equity at the Women's Center. Julianna loves to volunteer, where she has done service trips and worked with the Florida Trail Association to promote environmental awareness and conducted trail maintenance. Additionally, she played a role in electing Bristol, CT’s first female mayor through her involvement with the Democratic Town Committee. A nature enthusiast, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and beach outings, and spends her free time training for powerlifting competitions. She also loves to spend time with her rescue dog Ruby and volunteers/ fosters for a local rescue. Her dedication to environmental protection and climate policy has led her to work with nonprofits focused on voting rights, climate change, and environmental justice.
Welcome Julianna!
