Chapter Chair Update You may have heard from her as our Political Committee Chair of Sierra Club Connecticut, but now she is stepping into her new role as our Chapter Chair. Meet Ann Gadwah! Stop Extraction Waste in CT Will this be the year that all toxic, radioactive oil and gas extraction wastes, which includes fracking waste, are banned in Connecticut? Learn about why Connecticut needs to pass a bill that bans all extraction waste and what you can do to help make that happen.	Victories for Farm Animals The beginning of this year started off with a big victory for farm animals as the Supreme Court maintained laws passed in two states that ban certain egregiously cruel practices of factory farms. Yet there are still many steps needed to be taken to move towards better animal welfare, higher environmental standards and improved public health.
Government Shutdown and Conservation The effects of our current government shutdown, the longest in our country’s history, are rippling through our society. One aspect of the shutdown is the stripping of federal funds from museums, scientific collections and scientific research.	10 Surprising Garden Lessons from 2018 When we’re stuck inside away from gardening and perhaps not in nature as much, the winter months are a perfect time to reflect on the lessons we’ve learned over the year. Environmental Policy Transition Team In December of 2018 Governor Ned Lamont appointed Ann Gadwah to the Environmental Policy Transition Committee as a representative from Sierra Club Connecticut. The Committee was comprised of leaders and advocates from all over the environmental community. They gave their recommendations to the Governor in January. Emergency Climate Resolution As the concern over climate change continues to grow, so does the movement to push ourselves to boldly address this challenge. The Climate Emergency Resolution is a plan set forth by the New Haven Climate Movement, and endorsed by our Sierra Club Connecticut, urging the city of New Haven to declare a climate emergency.
