Chapter Chair Update June 2021 Get the latest updates on some of Sierra Club Connecticut’s projects and successes from this past month. Campaign Highlights Take a look at the highlights from Sierra Club Connecticut’s current campaigns and what we’ve been working on. Yes, Carol, there is an anti-idling law in CT By reducing your vehicle's idling time, you will reduce the pollution in our air, reduce your carbon footprint, and save money on gas. Get more information on idling, what Connecticut is doing to cut back on it, and how you can get your community “no-idling”.
Time To Update Connecticut’s Energy Efficiency Plan We need your voice! It’s time to update Connecticut’s energy efficiency program to align with state climate and clean energy policy. This ratepayer funded program plays a critical role in reducing energy use and can catalyze further reduction of climate-destroying greenhouse gas emissions.	The True Cost of the Proposed Killingly Energy Center The fight against the controversial fracked gas plant is not over. We reflect on the true costs of what Killingly Energy Center would mean to our health, to the environment, and to our future. We must continue to stand up for our communities and for the wildlife and nature in our state.	Protect Imperiled Wildlife Thanks to your passion and dedication, Senate Bill 925, An Act Prohibiting the Import, Sale, and Possession of African Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Black Rhinoceros, White Rhinoceros, and Giraffes, was approved by both the House and Senate and is headed to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
The Demise and Potential Revival of the American Chestnut by Kate Morgan The Appalachian landscape was reshaped by the death of the chestnuts (then by a century of coal mining). Before a disastrous blight, the American chestnut was a keystone species in eastern forests ranging from Maine to Florida. Could genetic engineering help bring it back?	An Increasingly Ticky Situation by Conor Mihell If you’re a nature lover in Connecticut, chances are you’ve encountered your share of ticks, especially the deer tick—and most of us know someone who has had Lyme disease. The increase in ticks and tick borne disease is another example of climate change.	Legislative Update Our legislative committee and staff (and supporters like you!) have been working overtime to pass important legislation that would put Connecticut on a path to the safe, healthy economy of the future. Make sure your voice is heard before Connecticut’s 2021 legislative session comes to a close on June 9.
Celebrating Sierra Club Connecticut It's hard to believe, but our Chapter will celebrate its 50th "birthday" next year. If you have older editions of our newsletter (from the 70s and 80s) and would be willing to share a copy with us, we'd love your help in telling the story of our Chapter.	Seeking Items for Fall Auction We are seeking donations of items for an online auction this fall.
