WOW! Not to brag but I’m so impressed by what we accomplished together in 2022. Sierra Club Connecticut held 36 educational events and trainings, nine clean ups and outings, six rallies, 30 tables at community events, prepared testimony on 36 bills and more, all in the last year! Our volunteers are the ones who made that happen. They are what makes Sierra Club unique, and strong! They, meaning YOU and me, are the multiplier effect for our incredible and creative staff who guide us and keep it all running smoothly.

In 2022, 3,100 of you took action to support our environmental priorities!

So I’m asking. What will be your next green thing?

 

If you’ve ever wanted to organize an event, help out with passing a bill that speaks to your heart, or have a fun day tabling with like-minded folk, let us know. We can help get the word out, train you in citizen lobbying techniques, or whatever you need to help you reach your climate goal. 

 

So many people say they want to do something to help protect our planet from the impacts of climate change, but they don’t know what to do. Together, we can make a big difference! Sierra Club believes in its members. Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement and a new leader blooms!

 

Speaking of blooms, spring is just around the corner and there are loads of Sierra Club events coming up. These include:

• Start planning your Spring garden at Regenerative and Growing - Ecologically Sensitive Gardening and Native Plants, an in-person event sponsored by the Shoreline Group. 

• See webinars and in-person talks on heat pumps and other ways to help make your home more energy efficient and also save you money on your energy bills. These improvements help to lower climate emissions and there are new rebates and incentives to make them more affordable to install.

• Take action to help stop polluting new compressor stations in Milford and Brookfield. 

• Learn about our fight to transition the Capitol Area System power plant to renewable energy

• Tabling opportunities! So many Earth Day events , so little time! We need volunteers in order to have a Sierra Club presence at the many exciting Earth Day celebrations we’ve been invited to. Tabling is fun, and is vital to let people know about the work we do. You’d be surprised at how many people do not know about the Sierra Club and its work in Connecticut!

• The Book Club is back! Starting on March 14th, join us to read and discuss Consumed: The Need for Collective Change: Colonialism, Climate Change, and Consumerism by Aja Barber. This multigenerational discussion group is a collaboration between Sierra Club Connecticut and Sunrise CT. 

• And, with the Legislative session well underway, our Legislative Committee is hard at work testifying and advocating for a variety of bills, from electrification and efficiency retrofits of housing to zero waste solutions for our waste crisis, to saving our wildlife. Be sure to check your email for our updates and actions, and take a minute to let your legislators know where you stand!

• Better yet, come to the Capitol between March 1-15 to see our Zero Waste display in the Legislative Office Building concourse and to speak with your legislator about the need for energy and housing affordability, and strong zero waste policy.
